KatHillFacesOfTahoeCityMeet Katherine “Kat” Hill, Publisher and Editor in Chief of The Tahoe Weekly.
Kat was born and mostly raised in Virginia, but her family moved to the south and east due to her father’s career building nuclear reactors. She received her bachelor degree in Political Science from Christopher Newport University and her master degree in Journalism & Media Culture from Old Dominion University.
With family in the SF Bay Area, Kat (and her brother and sister) always planned to move west, and it became a reality for Kat in 1998 when she moved to the Bay Area. Within one month she received two job offers, at the San Francisco Chronicle and The Tahoe World – Kat chose Tahoe.
After three years at The Tahoe World and two at The Tahoe Weekly, Kat moved to Mississippi to become managing editor of a daily newspaper, but Tahoe called her home after four years. Kat quit her job, sold her home and moved back…and even lived in a camper van outside her sister’s Tahoma house for a while. She returned to the Tahoe Weekly as a contractor, was promoted to associate editor, and in 2013 she purchased the magazine.
Kat loves life at the Tahoe Weekly because she is able to make a living telling stories about incredible Tahoe and Truckee people. Kat loves Tahoe City because of the beauty, recreation, and people – all the best parts of a small town.
When not working, you can find Kat cross-country skiing, hiking and exploring the west, enjoying lunch at Syd’s Cafe, dinner Hacienda Del Lago and drinks at Uncorked, shopping locally at North Tahoe Arts and Trunk Show, volunteering as President of the Tahoe City Downtown Association & other local organizations, spending time with her nephew Anikin or cooking and canning. (Kat is an excellent cook and canner!)
As the ONLY lakewide publication that covers outdoors, events and entertainment, the 35-year-old Tahoe Weekly was recently honored with the 2017 North Lake Tahoe Regional Marketing Award. A well-deserved recognition!
If you are looking to grow your business, promote your event or just gain exposure, then look no further than advertising locally in the Tahoe Weekly or digitally on their NEW website debuting in May. Kat and her team are committed to our community – and will definitely make a difference for YOU!
