The change of seasons is a magical time in the mountains. Sketching nature can help you discover patterns and details you may not otherwise notice during this transition.

Join Sarah Hockensmith, from the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science, as she combines art and nature. She will lead a group in sketching the fall colors and exploring Page Meadows. To begin the morning, at 9:30am on Saturday October 14th, she will lead a short hike into the meadows to identify trees, plants, and wildlife, and to observe their seasonal changes. Participants will then dive into detailed observation and sketching exercises. To conclude the outing, participants will enjoy a cup of tea and share their observations and drawings.

No experience necessary. This is a FREE event.

Please bring a journal (or sketching paper)*, pencil(s)*, color pencils, a mug, and your favorite bag of tea to enjoy. (Hot water will be provided by Jetboil). *Extra art supply materials will be provided.

TINS has a long-term goal of bringing a world-class interpretive nature center and educational facility to the Tahoe area. In the meantime, they engage in multiple science, education, and outreach programs to promote greater appreciation, understanding, and stewardship of the natural resources of the Tahoe region.

Through applied field research, TINS works collaboratively to help public and private land managers answer the questions that inform management decisions. Through outreach and citizen science, we engage the public directly, and allow them access to a deeper natural history experience and a greater comprehension of the region’s natural resources.

This event is available first come first served to 12 lucky participants. Please RSVP to [email protected]. Upon registering, participants will receive more information two days before the outing.
