The 7th Annual North Lake Tahoe Shop Local Contest, held Thanksgiving through December at retailers in Tahoe City, Kings Beach, Incline Village, Squaw Valley and the Village at Northstar was a success according to participating businesses and program coordinators. The program was developed to encourage re-investment of dollars into the local economy during the holidays. 1,500 Shop Local contest cards turned in proved that nearly $150,000 was spent at 90 participating North Shore retailers during the holidays.

The Shop Local Contest is a collaborative effort of the North Tahoe Business Association (NTBA), Tahoe City
Downtown Association (TCDA), the Incline Community Business Association (ICBA), the Squaw Valley
Neighborhood Company, the Village at Northstar and the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association.
Shopping locally helps to keep small independent retailers in business. Dollars spent locally have three times
the impact on the community as dollars spent at national chains. When shopping locally, helps create jobs, fund
local services through sales tax, reduce environmental impact and support the development of our
neighborhoods and communities.
